Selfie at the most-hated Amsterdam sight

The world famous “I Amsterdam” sign is actually hated by locals and is nowhere near the offbeat sights. That being said, I have never seen a person who’d resist a picture there – just to tick off the box. To make the experience slightly less touristic – here is a good tip: come here on a weekend, preferably on a sunny day (and yes, I do know there are not many of those in Amsterdam). It is still crowded, but at least, you get to hang out with the locals. Buy a couple of beers at the nearest supermarket, sit on the grass and get a breath of a truly “Amsterdam” lifestyle.

What to know: the sign is situated at the Museumplein, and there are actually really a lot of other things to do around. If you want to get the maximum out of your visit – go see Rijksmuseum or head straight to the Vondelpark, where the crowds gather for weekend barbecues.

When to go: open any time, though a picnic is best on a sunny weekend.
How to book: gosh, are you a tourist or something? Of course, it is free – and open 24/7.
